At 40 weeks and 11 days pregnant we packed our suitcase and the diaper bag and made our way to the hospital to begin the induction process that would lead to the birth of our first baby.

As we got closer to 42 weeks our midwife thought it would be best to get the ball rolling to avoid any risks that may arise from our little girl staying in the womb too long. It hadn't even crossed our minds that she would procrastinate like this!

Sunday night we got checked into our labor and delivery room and began the first step at 9:00 pm, which was having Cervadil administered to help prepare my body more for her birth.

Our hope had been to have an unmedicated birth so our fingers were crossed that using some more natural methods to get the labor started would work in our favor so we could avoid the use of Pitocin. At 7:00 am Monday morning the midwife arrived to attempt to break my bag of waters. Unfortunately, the waters didn't break, but contractions did start rolling in about every 2 to 3 minutes.

At noon the midwife returned to try one more time to break my water before starting the Pitocin drip. Success! The waters broke and contractions intensified and regulated. I labored for 5 hours mainly in the tub, with the help of Peter and my mom, Kate. With some added coaching from our amazing nurse, it was time to start pushing at 5:00 pm. Olive Rose arrived just 2 hours later at 6:57 pm, eyes wide, calmly looking around the room. She tipped the scales at 7 pounds 3.6 ounces and measured 19 inches long. The labor, although hard, was amazing! We were so happy to avoid the use of medication, and very grateful for her speedy arrival once her "pool had been drained."

Needless to say, we are so in love with our little girl and spent the next few hours just holding and looking at her in wonder.
