Olive and Andrea rest for what feels like the first time since we arrived
Today has been a big day for Olive! She started the morning off "sprinting." The respiratory nurse turned her ventilator pretty much off and kept close watch to see how she would do breathing on her own. She did great! She would need to "sprint" one more time and, if all went well, her breathing tube would be removed. They ran more tests to make sure she was doing well and it was determined that she needed to have her chest tube adjusted, which would help it to be more efficient. They also decided her kidneys were functioning great and they removed her catheter! They were able to perform the chest tube adjustment right in the room, but unfortunately an X-ray showed that it didn't move enough and they had to do it again. She did great though!

Olive passed her second sprint with flying colors and they removed her breathing tube at 4:00 pm. We are filled with so much joy to be able to hear her little voice again! They got her all swaddled in a pretty pink blanket and tucked her into a boppy, which she is loving. Snug as a bug :) Her color looks amazing, and we are just overwhelmed with love as we get to actually see her sweet face with one less tube.

We want to thank all of you who have been praying for us and sending Olive positive, healing energy! (Including Don's 4th grade class who sang for her!). We are feeling so grateful today.

ReplyDeleteThis is such a beautiful report! To see Ollie and Andrea resting peacefully, to see Olive's face opening up and her mouth tube-free, to know you can hear her little voice, all of this is tremendously welcome. We can't wait to see her and touch her again tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteI love seeing my dear Susie here, and to hear about so many friends, family and strangers who are lavishing prayers and attention on our sweet girl and her parents.
There is no sign of any discomfort on ollie's face. She seems to be doing fine.
ReplyDeleteshe has to keep listening to some voice. Mother's touch and voice is the best.
if you are not allowed to hold her or keep her in your lap, just touching her at regular intervals would do a lot good. Sing a song. When is ollie going home ?
At first I was just ooohing and aaahing...and now I'm sobbing tears of joy. What a beautiful little angel, Thank you for sharing this Journey with all of us who need to know!

Ollie is such a beautiful, precious little girl, and so lucky to be a part of your amazing family. I know that she will keep "sprinting" toward all of her milestones.
